Downsizing is a transition, not a junk-removal job
A longtime home may hold decades of furniture, family records, photographs, collections, tools and everyday household goods. The challenge is deciding what belongs in the next home and creating a thoughtful destination for everything else.
How we approach a downsizing project
Define what is moving
We begin with the future home in mind. Furniture dimensions, storage limits and the senior homeowner’s priorities help determine what should be kept.
Protect sentimental items
Photographs, heirlooms and family keepsakes are separated from ordinary household contents so the family can review them without the pressure of the broader cleanout.
Recover value where practical
Items worth selling can be marketed and the proceeds credited against the project fee. We focus on realistic net value rather than creating extra work for low-value items.
Donate useful belongings
Good items that do not fit the next home can often be donated, creating a more comfortable option than simply throwing everything away.
Clear the home
Once the keep, sell and donate categories are handled, we coordinate the remaining removal so the property can be listed, transferred or prepared for its next use.
Family can stay focused on the move.
Handled Homes takes responsibility for the home-clearing project so adult children do not have to spend every evening and weekend coordinating pickups, listings and hauling.
When to start
If possible, begin before the move date becomes urgent. More time gives the family room to make thoughtful decisions and improves the chances of recovering value from items that should be sold rather than rushed out of the house.
Handled Homes provides home-content and transition services. We do not provide legal, tax, appraisal or probate advice.
